Story: The Poison in Your Words

Your words are like poison,
Not because they sting;
More because I believe them.

The casual concurrence
Or a hint of recognition
Threatens my temperance.

Words reminding how we met
Looks and smiles igniting
Scenes I’ll rather forget.

Even a hardened heart and soul
Struck with words of tenderness
Unerringly loses control.

Your words are like poison,
Carelessly tossed to listeners
Yet I chose to believe them.
